Meet Our Featured Women in STEM Mentors
Dec 06 2018
Building Brave’s new Mobile Mentoring App (coming January 2019) will connect women directly to experienced, diverse female mentors. Mentoring Circles are built around topics like Career Growth, Leadership, Effective Communication, Managing People, Women in STEM, Women of Color, and Working Moms; to give support and advice where women need it.
We are so excited to introduce you to the featured mentors in our STEM Mentor Circle!
We asked our mentors why mentoring is important to them, what advice they’d give their younger self, and to tell us about one of their superpowers.
Ana Hooker, SVP Operations, Exact Sciences
Ana on mentoring: I can pay forward what strong women did for me and help others see the hidden facets in their own selves. It’s like polishing a diamond in the rough.
Ana’s advice to her younger self: Don’t stress about the battle for finding work/life balance. Just concentrate on integrating the two and there will be no battle.
Ana’s superpower: Perseverance and never giving up.
Jan Eddy, Retired President, CEO, Chairman at Wingra Technology, Office Solutions, First Business Bank
Jan on mentoring: I want to make the path to success easier for women in business.
Jan’s advice to her younger self: Step away from the business for short periods to get the best perspective.
Jan’s superpower: I’m a good listener, with the ability to organize and prioritize next steps, and occasionally open doors.
Carolyn Munoz, Chief Operating Officer, Cybercrime Support Network
Carolyn on mentoring: There were not many female role models while I was “coming up” – we should make sure the next generation has many to learn from.
Carolyn’s advice to her younger self: You own your career; the company only owns the job. Network so you always know what’s out there.
Carolyn’s superpower: Connecting with people – helping them feel comfortable. It’s all about relationships. (Although, my first inclination was to say folding fitted sheets.)
Meet more of our featured mentors here (link to other mentor series posts TBD), and in our all-new Mobile Mentoring App coming soon!!
