EMMY WINNING ANCHOR AND COMMUNICATIONS COACH KATRINA CRAVY: USE NERVES AND FEAR STAGE DIVE!
Feeling nervous and getting scared is a good thing, because it means that your body cares about what you’re doing. Nerves just say, “I care!”
One of the biggest things that hold people back is that when they get afraid, they think too much about themselves. What you really have to do is care about everybody else. When you get up in front of people, you have to love the audience. And when they can really feel that you’re giving them true love, they’ll love you back. If you have any public speaking fears, don’t think about yourself, think about the audience.
Take that stage dive! The self doubt is just in your head. It’s just the things that you’re assuming other people are thinking. I bet if you talked to those people, you’d learn that they never thought all those things that you were thinking. It’s just you, so get past that self doubt, tickle those fears, and then decide what the steps are to design your future. Ask, “What do I want to see in my future? I’m not there yet, because it’s a journey. It takes a long time. So what’s going to be that first step?” Get those steps in order, and then stage dive. Stage dive! Do it, it’s fun. Scary, but fun.
