About that 10-year plan…
Jun 28 2017
Ugh, we know. Plan, schman. The question of our 10-year plan bugs us, too. Especially when everyone, everywhere seems to have their sh*t figured out, and we’re just sitting here… waiting for the stars to align.
Would it help if we said feeling like that’s totally ok?
People talk, talk, talk about their 10, 15 and even 30 year plans. And good for them. But, while all that extra planning may work for some, it may not be realistic for you. Instead of stressing over where you’ll be 10 years from now, consider spending your time focussing on these practices to figure out where you’ll fit best:
- Know your skillzzz
What’s your wheelhouse? Knowing what you’re good and being able to articulate that will help you enormously… on the job and in life.
- Try something new
Interested in a certain career path but aren’t ready to jump? Try volunteering! You’ll see if the field’s a good match, and you’ll meet some new people who can offer advice.
- Talk to someone you look up to
Whether an advisor or your mom, you can be sure they’ve been there, done that. They’ve got the insight, and all you’ve gotta do is listen! and finally…
- Give breathing a chance
Plans change, so you don’t have to have it all figured out. Just relax. Opportunities’ll come when you least expect them.
